3 Ways to Treat Interior Wood

Whether it be a newly purchased house or a home that you have been in for years, refurbishing interior wood is a great way to renovate a stagnant room or to bring distinct style into a residence. At Cutting Edge Painters, we specialize in three different methods that would transform any piece of wood. Whether it be cabinets, door/door frames, baseboards, shelves, or even an old book case you have been looking to transform, our techniques are a sure way to revamp any style.

  1. Convert to Latex

One of the most common ways we treat wood surfaces is by converting it to a latex paint. This method can be done with both fresh wood and pieces that have been previously stained. While this can be an extensive process, the results are the most diverse based simply on the array of paint colors available to the consumer.

  2. Refurbish old wood

Wood can be a great accent to any room, especially in New England. In countless homes, there are great wood fixtures that some would consider a sin to cover with paint. It is in these cases a protective polyurethane coating would secure the integrity of the wood while bringing it back to life, giving the pieces a great shine and luster. Polyurethane can be a tricky substance to work with, our employees though, have tenured experience not only doing book shelves or trim, but also whole walls and cabinets.

  3. Wood Stain

While it is a common assumption that stain is only used on outside wood, decks, cedar shakes siding, etc. it also serves as a great interior tool as well. Changing the stain of wood trim not only acts as a protective element for a home, but it allows a customer to switch up a color scheme in a room without having to worry about matching the brightness of a wood trim. For example, changing a light cedar to a rich mahogany opens the color spectrum to a more diverse set of options.

It does not matter if it is aged trim or freshly constructed cabinets, give us a call today for a free quote on how we can restore your interior wood!

The Perks of Caulking for the Winter

As winter creeps up on us day by day, here at Cutting Edge Painters we want to ensure that the warmth in your house stays there. The most effective way we tell our loyal customers to achieve this is by caulking before you put a coat of paint on the walls. Caulking is the application of a malleable sealing agent to narrow gaps between baseboards, pieces of trim and any other cracks or holes. The substance is applied by using a particular, gun like tool, loaded with a tube of the product. Then, after cutting a small hole at the end of the nozzle, we apply the caulk to the crack, smoothing out the compound to blend nicely with the surface.

Consumer Federation of America lists caulking windows, baseboards, doors and any other cracks as a sure way to lower your heating cost and protect the home against energy waste while running your heating system. By sealing pesky cracks and holes, not only are you keeping the heat where it belongs, but you are also putting less strain on your home appliances which in the long run saves money on buying a new machine, fixing current ones and, most importantly, saving you from the hassle all together!

While worrying about our own pockets is an important aspect of our everyday life, making sure the environment is well protected for our next generations is just as vital. Caulking and weather proofing a home lowers carbon footprints while lowering the amount of energy needed to create comfortable temperatures.

So keep warm, keep money in your pocket and keep the environment safe by giving us a quote to secure your home for the winter weather!

Stain Your Deck

Summer time is almost here, which means your deck is about to see some heavy traffic. While you enjoy your barbeques and get-togethers your deck is experiencing some serious wear and tear. To add to this the summer sun can dry out your deck and fade its color. For most decks stain does a great job protecting against these elements. Stain can bring new life to dried out decks or add a nice new finish to them. With a range of colors to choose from there is bound to be one you like. We recommend that your deck is stained a minimum of once every two years to keep it in tip-top shape.
In last weeks blog we explained the process and importance of power washing. This is the first crucial step before you stain to insure that the product will last. For anyone with a trex deck power washing is a quick and cheap fix for a dull dirty deck. So before you plan your next deck party or if you just plan to quietly enjoy it all summer make sure it is properly protected.

Power Wash Your House

With spring approaching make sure you add power washing to your list of things to do. A lot of times cleaning your home can be overlooked, but it is a crucial part of keeping it clean and persevering its beauty. Power washing will rid your home of pesky mold and dirt build up while preventing future build-up. Aside from ruining the luster of your home this dirt and mold can permanently fade your paint or siding and even do damage to the exterior. The process is simple and in most cases only takes a couple of hours. A solution is sprayed on first to help brake down the dirt and mold. Next a high pressured spray of water is used to rinse your home clean. We recommend power washing ever two years to keep your house looking the best on the block!
